Here are the Jazz Cds available
Aaron, Blake : Desire
In June 2007, Blake released the hot new CD, DESIRE. Packed with 15 songs of sexy grooves and beautiful, unforgettable melodies, produced by the legendary Paul Brown and Hussain Jiffry, and mastered by the renowned Bernie Grundman (Michael Jackson, Norah Jones, Kenny G and more), and is sure to catapult Blake to the next level of contemporary jazz stardom.
Albright, Gerald : New Beginnings
All of the 12 tracks showcase Albright's assertive mix of Cannonball Adderley's bravura and Maceo Parker's funkiness--whether he's playing alto, baritone, tenor sax, or flute. His high school friend, Patrice Rushen, who let Albright steal the show with his burning solo on her 1982 single "Forget Me Nots," turns in a nice piano spotlight on the title track.
Antoine, Marc : Hi-Lo Split
His European and Latin influences and his primary interest is sleek American-style smooth jazz influence this album. Antoine is a graceful player with a glowing tone on nylon strings, and percussive effects give the music a welcome edge. He also takes chances, as on a re-harmonization of the old Classics IV hit, "Spooky."
Benoit, David : Full Circle
Great melodies combined with exceptional vituosity by each of the performers. This is a must have CD for anyone that enjoys contemporary jazz.
Bona Fide : Soul Lounge
Great jazz sound with an upbeat, funky groove on every track. Bona Fide, on this album, reminds me at times of the funkier side of Gregg Karukas & Bob James on keybords. On guitar, Bona Fide has a vey unique sound; somewhere between Russ Freeman, Brian Tarquin, and Peter White.
Boswell, David : Bridge of Art
Bridge Of Art features the sharp melodic playing, composing and improvising of David Boswell with the amazing musicianship of his band. It is smooth jazz, contemporary jazz and has elements of world music and is a record that puts David Boswell “on the map” as a guitarist and composer to watch out for.
Brown, Norman : Stay with Me
The acclaimed contemporary jazz guitarist Norman Brown has not only ensured that the musicianship on thisalbum will be tight and cohesive, but also underlined the versatility and adaptability of the musicians who play with him. Norman's vocals as well deserve some special attention, as they range from soft and smooth ballads such as "So In Love" and "Stay With Me", to the playful scat-singing of "Let's Take A Ride". There are plenty of pure instrumental sounds among the cuts too.
Brown, Paul : White Sand
One of the leading Contemporary Jazz guitarists/producers in the world, Paul Brown makes this album with an elite group of friends. These `friends" include Al Jarreau, Boney James, Bobby Caldwell, Lina, Euge Groove, Rick Braun, Jeff Lorber, Jesse J and David Benoit. Brown has been creating distinctive, "hummable" tracks for years for other artists and has a keen instinct for knowing what his fans want to hear. On "White Sands", his third album as a solo artist.
Cantos, Bill : Movie in the Night Sky
The album is a mixture of all types of musical styles, it kicks off with New Red Coat a mid-tempo tune driven along by a thundering bass sound from Jerry Watt. This album includes various type of music, basically categorized as AOR/Adult Contemporary Music.
Cole, Steve : True
Focusing on performance, improvisation and really playing from the heart & soul, and fueled by the metropolitan sounds and influences of his hometown of Chicago, the album is a mix of R&B, contemporary jazz, pop and dance music.
Down to the Bone : Supercharged
This is the new fantastic, great new album from the British contemporary Jazz Funk outfit.
"Supercharged" is the funkiest set to date. The title song is a full on Funk instrumental on which the horn section excel, as is the slower "Funkin' Around".
Dulfer, Candy : Candy Store
Dutch-born saxophonist Candy Dulfer has been mesmerizing audiences in every corner of the world with the combination punch of jaw-dropping performances, show-stopping musicianship and eye-popping sex appeal. Candy Store is her massively funky, high-energy Heads Up debut and a surefire hit.
East Bay Soul : East Bay Soul
The sound has its roots in the uniquely soul based genre associated with the San Francisco East Bay Area. It is however, R&B for our time. Watch and hear this band and you will find yourself in front of the stage, and people will be moving with the music. The timeless quality of the East Bay Soul sound knows no age limits.
Four80East : En Route
Canadian Jazz/electronica outfit Four80East returns for their highly-anticipated new studio album En Route. Titled for its constant flow of instrumental groove, the contemporary duo's Native Language Music debut and first new release in five years puts a fresh spin on their past work to create a collection that's remarkably cinematic. Attractively packaged in a "deluxe-edition" jewel case with die-cut slipcase.
Kenny G : At Last the Duets
The genius of At Last...The Duets Album is in its matchups and cross-pollinations. As with all Kenny G projects, the music is smoother than a frappuccino and oddly suited to a soap opera living room set; its swirls, swells, and crescendos seem meant to fall on bejeweled ears in pretty, carefully appointed spaces only.
Kenny G : Rhythm and Romance
Legendary saxophonist extraordinario Kenny G returns with this romantic collection of Latin music, featuring original songs and classic favorites. Contemporary love songs with a Latin twist!
Gazarek, Sara : Live at the Jazz Bakery
Sara is going to be THE premier jazz vocalist for then next few decades. She has broken some of the ground rules and went to areas where you would not have anticipated and we have gladly followed her slick, sophisticated, smooth, upbeat is her bedrock style but she is capable of soaring elsewhere. This album provides ample proof of her artistic capabilities and range!
Gazarek, Sara : Return To You
First off this album is in general a very mellow, mostly relective song list...with some very brightly lit exceptions ("Carey" by Joni Mitchell among others). Sara demonstrates a willing and highly competent ability to have musical expeditions beyond the safety of her very, upbeat, hopeful, easy going songs. Her fans will appreciate all those "beyond-the-perimeter" efforts here.
Golub, Jeff : Grand Central
This is Jeff's seventh solo album, which shows off his wonderful jazz guitar work and improvisation.
It is a cool, gentle journey through the ever evolving music of Jeff Golub. Along with a crispy, funky and groove-laden exterior there is some great blues & soul inspired work.
Groove, Euge : Born 2 Groove
With a pleasingly unaffected, natural-sounding delivery and a considerable talent for writing original songs ranging from soulful ballads to funky shuffles or relatively conventional standard-influenced material, Euge Groove has made another great recording with "Born 2 Groove".
Guerrero, Tony : Apasionado
The full-bodied Apasionado sounds just about right for its time, with more nuance and depth than you're likely to find on other CDs in the contemporary jazz genre. Surrounded by some of the best players in L.A., he mixes Latin sounds and ballads in a wonderful way. His flugelhorn playing is marvelously inventive, and his associates play with skill and fresh ideas. Picking a best cut is impossible on this album; they are all excellent.
Hiroshima : Spirit of the Season
If you already listened to Hiroshima's music, you will know that they combine smooth jazz with the natural sound of the koto (a long Japanese multi-stringed instrument), which is performed by June Kuramoto. Hiroshima's multi-instrumentalist and co-founder Dan Kuramoto explains: " Our particular take on these traditional songs might say as much or maybe even more about who we are than our own music in some ways. These songs tap into common denominator among all of us."
Hiroshima : Legacy
Legacy isn't designed to be the definitive Hiroshima anthology, but it does represent a sampling of where the band was in the '80s and how it continues to evolve and explore the parameters of its unique blending of East-meets-West musical styles.
Hiroshima : Little Tokyo
There is an exotic dimension to this CD collection the defies definition. That it is one of Hiroshima's most creative releases to date is definite. Every performance shines with individuality, whether in solo or in group expression. The album offers a cocktail of young and old, east and west, funky tunes and contemporary jazz grooves with a dash of lyricism and the result encapsulates the dedication and reverance of some of today's finest exponents of Japanese and American idioms.
James, Boney : Shine
After fourteen years, over 2 million records, four Gold Albums, a Soul Train Award, and two consecutive Grammy nominations, Boney James begins the next chapter of his musical career. His Concord Records debut, Shine, features guest appearances by hip-hop/soul diva Faith Evans, jazz-guitar icon George Benson, R&B vocalists Dwele and Phillip Bailey, keyboard wizard George Duke, alternative-pop singer Esthero and Sounds of Blackness powerhouse Ann Nesby.
Jarreau, Al : Accentuate The Positive
This CD, with Diana Krall's rhythm section--guitarist Anthony Wilson, drummer Peter Erskine, and bassist Christian McBride--should please fans of albums like Jarreau's phenomenal 1977 live LP, Look to the Rainbow. Duke Ellington's "I'm Beginning to See the Light" is illuminated by Larry Goldings's down-home Hammond organ, while Lionel Hampton's "Midnight Sun" bops with hip-hop-friendly rim shots. Jarreau's tenor tones curve with saxophonic dexterity and pulse with percussive precision, especially on Dizzy Gillespie's "Groovin' High."
Jones, Norah : Not Too Late
Although the music of Norah Jones continues to blend pop, soul, folk, and country with a seasoning of jazz, her third album for Blue Note is the first where she's written (or collaborated on) all the material. Beneath the smooth surface lie darker strains on the album-opening "Wish I Could" (about a boyfriend lost to war), intimations of mortality in "The Sun Doesn't Like You," and the post-election horrors of "My Dear Country."
Koz, Dave : At The Movies
From the moment Judy Garland's voice comes keening through the crackle of "Over the Rainbow," we're transported directly into the cinema alongside Koz. Only in Koz's theater, the music is at times more heart-tuggingly pretty than we remember. "Moon River," from Breakfast at Tiffany's meanders gracefully before Barry Manilow surfaces to lend a languid, signature-smooth vocal. "The Shadow of Your Smile" from The Sandpiper sends ripples of bittersweetness down the spine straight through the soul.
Koz, Dave : Memories Of A Winter's Night
The creamy-smooth saxophone of Dave Koz takes everyone's favorite Christmas classics on a ride through a wintry jazz/pop wonderland (with a little detour to Hanukah-town). Koz's Holiday tree has some noteworthy ornaments, namely the funky guitar of Ray Parker and Paul Jackson, the honeyed voices of Brenda Russell and Kelly Sweet, and the delicate nylon-string guitar of Koz's brother Jeff.
Koz, Dave : Saxophonic
Koz has crafted a suite of tunes in three acts with a curtain call to boot. Act II kicks of with "Let It Free" replete with one of those uplifting release choruses that seems destined for repeated airplay. "Saxophonic (Come On Up)" is a masterful blend of slinky grooves and sexy, cooing R&B. Also featured are supporting performances by Brian McKnight, Chris Botti, and Marc Antoine. Koz and company have compiled a tasty menu of diverse moods, from the funky to the serene.
Kuramoto, June : Under the Stars
The third solo project by “the greatest koto player in the world . . . (Stanley Clarke),” is a collaborative venture with her closest co-composers. The all new, original compositions by June and ‘friends’ reflect the continuing growth of the artist and her passion to use the koto as her voice in untraditional settings. The richness and complexity of the pieces are highlighted by June’s unparalleled feel and musicianship in rich orchestral settings, world rhythms, and R&B grooves.
Lino : Return to Avalon
Lino's new album, Return To Avalon is a rich blend of acoustic, classical, jazz, Latin, and contemporary new age styles. It is a remarkable follow-up to Lino's debut release, Satin Blue.
Slim Man : Solstice
Solstice, the new CD from pop/jazz vocalist Slim Man, features guitarist Marc Antoine. Solstice is both a return and a departure for Slim Man--a return to the studio where he recorded his first CD, 'End of the Rainbow', which had the Top Ten Hit 'Faith In Us', and a departure in that the sound has a more Latin/Pop/Chill vibe than Slim Man's other CDs.
Matsui, Keiko : Moyo
Contemporary jazz icon Keiko Matsui's new album, (Swahili for "heart and soul"), recorded with local musicians in South Africa, Japan and the United States, introduces new sounds and rhythms to her elegant piano melodies and gentle jazz grooves. For this project, Keiko invited other artists into the creative process, including legendary trumpeter Hugh Masakela, sax player Gerald Albright, soprano sax player Paul Taylor, bassist/vocalist Richard Bona, drummer Akira Jimbo and vocalist Waldemar Bastos.
Maysa : Feel the Fire
Graceful best describes this new set of covers by the incomparable Maysa Leak on, Feel The Fire, her sixth solo project. On this spry set of 10 silky tracks Maysa's voice goes down as smooth as cognac, with just enough bite to keep it interesting.
Meadows, Marion : Players Club
Players Club will grab your attention right from the start with the title track Player's Club and doesn't let go until the very last note of the very last song After 6:00, which is another great track by the way. Players Club is a nicely varied, mix of 11 tracks that are very well written songs by this clearly gifted artist.
Minucci, Chieli : Sweet Surrender
The album showcases a fresh mix of irresistible grooves filled with funky memorable hooks, lyrical sweeping melodies, head-nodding polyrhythmic romps and dance inducing and body shaking rhythms. "Sweet Surrender" features Chieli Minucci alongside 'core' Special EFX band members saxophonist and flutist David Mann, drummer Lionel Cordew, vocalist and percussionist Philip Hamilton, pianist and keyboardist Jay Rowe and bassist Jerry Brooks, as well a few guest musicians.
Mullins, Rob : Standards and More
Leading a traditional quartet (with tenor saxophonist Jimmy Roberts, bassist David Levray and drummer Evan Stone) he delivers a solid live set of standards and old-fashioned originals, all of them played with wit and innovative energy but also wth unflagging respect for tradition. Mullins' own "Bb Major Etude", a bright and happy celebration of the bebop sound is on the album.
Native Language : Smooth Jazz at Midnight
A Smooth Jazz collection of songs that paint a vivid and emotional portrait of the night. Featuring twelve tracks from some of Smooth Jazz's best-known artists and a brand new track produced by Brian Bromberg featuring up and coming trumpet player Tony Guerrero, "Smooth Jazz At Midnight" is a touching account of the passion, mystery, and serenity that can only be found after dark. Whether you are driving home late at night, or at home by the fire, this is the music of the night.
Nils : Pacific Coast Highway
Nils debut album Blue Planet introduced this great guitarist to Smooth Jazz radio. His subsequent tour called Nils & the West Coast Allstars featured prominent artists Patrice Rushen, Carl Anderson, Bobby Lyle, Everette Harp and Kevin Richard. Needless to say, this raised the bar for a follow-up album, and Pacific Coast Highway doesn't disappoint. Guest vocals by Chante Moore and Siedah Garrett, plus contributions from a host of seasoned jazz session players have provided Smooth Jazz radio with several must play tracks.
Nils : Ready to Play
Nils enters 2007 Ready To Play once again with an exciting new collection that keeps his crisp and edgy electric guitar front and center while expanding his pop, jazz and R&B driven musical palette even further. His perfect choice for the album's first radio single is the instantly infectious, funky and percussive "Ready To Play." Other key tracks are the optimistic, sensual midtempo number "Just Smile," the dreamy and ambient, wordless vocal tinged "Catnap", the old school soul-inflected funk of "Sunrise On Sunset" and the brash and bouncy, hard grooving "Hi Five."
Oliver, Steve : 3D
Oliver digs deep into a rich variety of influences for a multifaceted romp through the worlds of pop, jazz, urban/hip-hop, worldbeat, Brazilian, and Latin music. While focusing as always on his classic acoustic guitar and brilliant "vocalese" to convey the lead melodies on the instrumentals, he stretches into edgier blues territory with his lesser-heard electric on "In the Shade of Cool."
Perry, Phil : A Mighty Love
The power and beauty of Phil Perry's voice shine on this selection of classics especially on the Spinners' "Mighty Love" and a breathtaking take of "If You Don't Know Me By Now"..
On ballads like Tony Braxton's "Unbreak MY Heart" and Smokey Robinson's "Just To See Her", Phil Perry combines the delicate yet passionate vocal with soul. It's a valid and pleasant album that will appeal to both Soul and R&B fans.
Ritenour, Lee : Smokin' Mirrors
As comfortable as guitarist Lee Ritenour has always been in the smooth jazz format, he has strived to go beyond it with his embrace of world music and serious jazz stylists including Wes Montgomery. Smoke 'N' Mirrors is a characteristic production in gathering up a sizable cast of contemporary cronies including Patrice Rushen, Dave Grusin, Richard Bona and Abraham Laboriel, but Ritenour's involvement in South African and Brazilian music and his emphasis on acoustic guitar give it a fresh identity.
Siegel, Dan : Inside Out
This album is exemplary of the best piano oriented medium-tempo contemporary jazz. The mood is consistent from top to bottom; you won't need to hit the skip button on your CD player. The compositions are sophisticated and well conceived, while being performed by some of the best musicians in Los Angeles.
Sommers, Jimmy : Sunset Collective
Sunset Collective features performances by such diverse and intriguing artists as Vikter Duplaix, Macy Gray, Paul Oakenfold, Rahsaan Patterson, Paul Brown and Brian Culbertson as well as a bonus remix by DJ Spinna and bonus track with Ginuwine. Jimmy has worked with Eric Benet, Coolio and Norman Brown on previous releases all of which have had enormous radio response form both Smooth Jazz and Urban Adult Contemporary. A true crossover artist with deep media appeal to boot.
Soul Ballet : Lavish
Soul Ballet is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist/producer/composer Rick Kelly. A chilled out, funky blast of sonically brilliant, magnificently performed nujazz originals. Lavish is the title and lush is the keyword in describing this radio friendly contemporary classic.
