Sickle Cell Anemia is a chronic blood disorder. It affects about a hundred thousand people in the U.S. About one in12 African Americans carries the trait and one out of 36-thousand Hispanic children are born with the disease.
The life expectancy for a Sickle Cell disease carrier is 40 years old.
